SPARK Challenge Apps Workshop #2

This Application Workshop will teach participants how to create a functioning application for Android smart phones and tablets. Through this workshop hosted by KMDI and Thing Tank, participants will learn the start to finish process of creating a functioning app, from setting up an Android development environment, to programming in Java, to installing the app on their phone or tablet.

Setup: Installing a working Android development environment.
Tools of the trade: Quick review of the Eclipse IDE and programming in Java.
Concepts: Activities, User Interface components, and other Android basics.
Hello World! Programming an Android app from start to finish.
Where to go from here: Pointers about where to find help and resources.

Workshop Pre-Requisites:

  • Required: a Windows, Linux, or Mac OS Laptop
  • Optional but Recommended: and Android smartphone or tablet (but can do without)
  • STRONGLY Recommended: Basic experience with programming in Java or another Object-Oriented language
