SPARK Challenge workshop

This Application Workshop will teach participants how to create a functioning application for Android smart phones and tablets. Through this workshop hosted by KMDI and Thing Tank, participants will learn the start to finish process of creating a functioning app, from setting up an Android development environment, to programming in Java, to installing the app on their phone or tablet. Wednesday, 29 February 2012 from 15:00 to 18:00

Topics Covered

  • Setup: Installing a working Android development environment.
  • Tools of the trade: Quick review of the Eclipse IDE and programming in Java.
  • Concepts: Activities, User Interface components, and other Android basics.
  • Hello World! Programming an Android app from start to finish.
  • Where to go from here: Pointers about where to find help and resources.

Participant Requirements:

  • Some experience with programming.
  • A Windows, Linux, or Mac OS laptop.
  • Recommended: an Android smartphone or tablet (but can do without)

Coffee and snacks will be provided at this event.
